MAKE: Blog: A price to pay for alternative fuels

I just do not understand this. Use veggie oil fuel and you have to pay a fuel tax? BS if you ax me.

Ok, after further thought, I do understand it. One of NC's monikers is "the good roads state", so in order to keep said roads, er, good, taxes must be assessed. However, I do know that extra taxes are levied if the state doesn't meet clean air standards, and I would expect that an alternate fuel vehicle would not be subject to these fines, or at least a discounted rate based on the type of fuel used.
